Sandakphu is one of the glorious and highest peaks (3636 m; 11,930 ft) of the three places i.e district of IIam, Nepal and West Bengal, India.Trek to Sandakphu is one of the most exciting adventure because of grand vistas of the Kangchenjunga range and the Everest range which can be seen from the ridge, and also for the seasonal wildflower blooms and birding.

The trekking routes inside the Singalila National Park have four legs or stages.

  • Manebhanjan to Meghma (2600 m): This is a 4-hour trek through the lower forest. The route goes via Chitre.
  • Meghma to Gairibans (2621 m): There are two alternative trekking routes. They respectively go via Tonglu (3070 m) and Tumling (2900 m). From Tumling, a shorter trail cuts through Nepal and Jaubari (2750 m).Jaubari is ward no 07 of jamuna VDC ilam.
  • Gairibans to Sandakphu (3636 m):
  • Sandakphu to Phalut (3600 m): It is a one-day trek via Sabarkum (3536 m) covering 21 km.

NOTE:

  • Decision of trek leader will be the final decision.
  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high
  • altitudes.
  • Pay heed to the trek leaders or instructors in order to enjoy a safe and sound experience.
  • Do not consume alcohol or any other intoxicants during the trek.
  • Avoid roaming during the night.
  • Carry basic medications and an ORS during the tour.
  • The tour takes place through eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1

New Jalpaiguri to Tumling via Manebhanjan

New Jalpaiguri to Tumling via Manebhanjan (Approx. 102Kms/ 6 hrs.) After arrival at NJP/ Siliguri, you will proceed to Manebhanjan. It will take 3 ½ hrs. drive. After lunch at Manebhanjan start for Tumling by Jeep/ 4-wheel drive car. Within 2 hrs. will reach Tumling. Overnight stay at Tumling Homestays. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
Day 2

Tumling to Kalipokhri Trek

Tumling to Kalipokhri Trek (Approx. 11kms/ 7hrs) From Tumling, you will trek for about Seven hours to reach Kalipokhri (or Kalepokhri) at an altitude of 10,400 ft. Initially, you will trek uphill through forests of oak after reaching Gairibas, rhododendrons, and bamboo and reach Kaiyakatta in about 1.5 hours. Kaiyakatta is about 2kms from Gairibas. Here you can stop for a cup of tea and move on. The trail starts descending from here. In another 1.5 hours or so you will reach Kalipokhri. Overnight stay at Kalipokhri. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
Day 3

Kalipokhri to Sandakphu Trek

Kalipokhri to Sandakphu Trek (Approx. 7kms/3- 3.30hrs) An early start in the morning will take you to our Dream Destination - SANDAKPHU. You will not like to miss out on the panoramic view of the snow peaks from Sandakphu. From Kalipokhri, the trekking route gradually descends up to Bikheybhanjang which is located 2kms away. On the way, you will cross a place called Bhagsa where you can take a break for a couple of minutes. Then walk towards Bikheybhanjang. This is another small hamlet. The name means "Valley of Poison" because of the poisonous Aconite plants that grow in abundance around this place. Further 4kms from Bikheybhanjang and now the final destination. It will be a great treat for your eyes and the best part of this SANDAKPHU TREK. Overnight stay at Sandakphu. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
Day 4

Sandakphu to Sabargram Trek

Sandakphu to Sabargram Trek (Approx. 16kms/ 7- 8hrs) Wake up before sunrise for a remarkable view of the Himalayas. The wide panorama of Nepal, Sikkim, and Bhutan ranges about 320 Km long is visible from left to right. Today’s walk surely makes an entry in the list of finest ones in the Himalayas. You will walk on ridges and through meadows, and maybe even run down a few slopes with the wind blowing through your hair. After some gradual ascents and descents, you join the road again. This section takes 1.5 hours as you reach Thukumb Checkpost. Get your entry tickets checked here. The trail to Sabargram is towards your right while the Nepal road goes via the left trail. Take a left via the Nepal trail and walk for 10 minutes till you reach a hut. Another 15 minutes on the same trail will connect you back with the trail to Sabargram. This stretch takes around 3 to 4 hours till you find yourself at Forest Check Post of Sabarkum. This will be your campsite for today. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
Day 5

Sabargram to Phalut Trek

Sabargram to Phalut Trek (Approx. 7kms / 2.5 hrs.) The trail from Sabargram to Phalut is a 7km zigzag route, which will take you about 2.5 hours. you get the closest views of the entire panorama. Here you will experience the Sleeping Buddha Range. Trekkers Hut is available for stay. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
Day 6

Phalut to Gorkhey Trek

Phalut to Gorkhey Trek (Approx. 10kms / 3.5 hrs.) After an early morning panoramic view we will start our trek to Gorkhey. From Phalut, you begin to descend. we descend 15 Km to Gorkhey. As we go down, trees become larger and denser. This is a picturesque small village with a stream flowing by side and borders with the northern part of West Sikkim. Private lodges and a Trekkers Hut are available for stay. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
Day 7

Gorkhey to Bhareng trek to NJP by car

Gorkhey to Bhareng trek to NJP by car(Approx. 4 km/ 2 hr.) After early breakfast trek to bhareng The trail goes through the forest and a trek of around two hours will lead you to Bhareng. After reach at Bhareng proceed to NJP by car. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
